Ira G. Pearl was named vice president, Technology and Environmental Sustainability in 2009. In this position, he is responsible for leading business development and commercialization of the company’s renewable energy portfolio as well as end-use technologies including distributed generation, fuel cells, natural gas vehicles, and high-efficiency appliances. He also is responsible for leading the company’s climate change and greenhouse gas strategy and environmental sustainability initiatives, as well as for providing oversight of all corporate environmental programs.

From 2005 through 2008, he served as vice president, Engineering Services and Supply Chain, where he led the company’s Engineering, Construction, Fleet, Crisis Management, Supply Chain Management, and Environmental, Health & Safety departments.

Prior to joining AGL Resources in 2005, Mr. Pearl held several executive positions at Delta Air Lines, including the areas of environmental affairs, ground operations, safety and security, and flight operations.

Mr. Pearl serves on the boards of the Georgia Conservancy, Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Southface Energy Institute.

He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He then completed his post-graduate education in nuclear engineering and spent more than six years as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.
